FOIA Request to Central Connecticut State University Regarding Chinese National Students on June 4, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Hartford Reporter have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Central Connecticut State University. This request seeks detailed information concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the university.

Our inquiry includes several specific requests:

1. We are asking for documents or lists that detail all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If certain information is protected, we have requested the total number of such students and a breakdown by department.

2. We seek documents showing all current Chinese National students and the scholarships they receive, including the amount and source of each scholarship.

3. Additionally, we have requested information on any scholarships granted by entities affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council. If this overlaps with our second request, we ask for clarification on which scholarships meet this criterion.

4. Finally, we are interested in any policies or procedures the university has in place to monitor students, including Chinese Nationals, to protect intellectual property and other confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of Hartford Reporter and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As members of the media dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, access to these records is vital for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We have also requested a fee waiver given our role in disseminating important information to the public.
