FOIA Request to University of Connecticut Hartford Regarding Chinese National Students on June 4, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in governmental affairs, we at the Hartford Reporter have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the University of Connecticut Hartford. Our request seeks detailed information about the university’s Chinese National students and related policies.
Specifically, we are requesting documents or lists that reveal the number of current students who are Chinese Nationals, categorized by their department of study. If privacy concerns necessitate redaction, we have asked for a total count instead. Additionally, we seek information on scholarships awarded to these students, including amounts and sources. In particular, we are interested in any scholarships associated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.
Furthermore, our request includes any university policies or procedures regarding the monitoring of students—particularly Chinese Nationals—to safeguard intellectual property and confidential information.
This inquiry is conducted in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting transparency through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. As members of the media committed to public accountability and transparency, we believe this request serves the public interest by shedding light on how educational institutions interact with international students and manage sensitive information.
We look forward to receiving a response from the University of Connecticut Hartford and will keep our readers informed as this story develops.
