Hartford men’s tennis loses 7-0 to Rhode Island College

The Hartford men’s tennis team lost 7-0 to Rhode Island College on March 15 at the Magic Liner Academy in Manchester, Connecticut.

The match saw Rhode Island College secure the doubles point by winning two out of three doubles matches. The Anchormen won both the No.1 and No.3 doubles matches with scores of 6-3. Hartford’s pairing of freshman Yande Simunyola and sophomore Anthony Pomares were defeated in the No.1 match, while freshmen Hared DeGruttola and Thomas Andersen also fell in the No.3 spot by the same score.

Hartford managed a victory at No.2 doubles, where freshman Eli Benoit and sophomore Jake Short earned a 6-2 win over their opponents from Rhode Island College. In singles play, Simunyola came close to a win at the No.2 position, losing the first set 6-2 but pushing his opponent to a tiebreaker in the second set, which he won 7-6. However, he was unable to secure victory in the final set, falling 10-2 in a points tiebreaker.

The Hawks were unable to win any singles matches during this contest.

Looking ahead, Hartford will play its next match on Tuesday, March 17 at Curry College for their second Conference of New England contest of the season.
