Hartford men’s tennis secures first CNE win against Curry College

The Hartford men’s tennis team earned its first Conference of New England (CNE) victory on March 17, defeating Curry College with a score of 7-0.

This win marks an important milestone for the program as it is their inaugural conference victory. The result also represents the team’s first triumph of the spring season.

During doubles play, Hartford swept all three matches. Jake Short and Anthony Pomares won at #1 doubles by a score of 6-2. Eli Benoit and Yande Simunyola secured a 6-1 win at #2 doubles, while Thomas Andersen and Jared DeGruttola claimed a close 7-5 victory in #3 doubles. In singles competition, Short dominated his match with a 6-0, 6-0 result at #1 singles. Simunyola won his match at #2 singles by scores of 6-1, 6-3. Pomares took the #3 singles match with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 finish. Benoit prevailed in his contest with two sets of 6-4. DeGruttola came from behind to win #5 singles in three sets: 3-6, 6-1, and a tiebreaker of 10-8. Connor Nickischer rounded out the sweep with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 win at #6 singles.

“We just got our first taste of victory today and we are hungry for more. today’s victory just goes to show our hard work has paid off and that we can be a competitive team among our conference,” said sophomore Jake Short (Poughquag, N.Y.). “We are ready for Wentworth this Saturday, let’s get it.”

Looking ahead, Hartford will travel to Boston to face Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday at 6:00 PM.
