The Hartford softball team won one game and lost another in a doubleheader played on March 14. The Hawks rallied to defeat Grinnell College 5-4 before falling to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire by a score of 13-5.

These games provided an opportunity for Hartford to showcase both resilience and areas for improvement as the season continues.

In the first game against Grinnell College, Hartford took an early lead with a run in the opening inning. After falling behind 4-1, the Hawks mounted a comeback in the later innings. Senior Gia Miccio contributed with both a triple and a double, scoring twice and driving in a run. Freshman Gillian Ulrich tied the game with an RBI single in the sixth inning, and sophomore Katrina Baran drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home what would be the winning run. Sophomore Ella Zobel started as pitcher, while senior Carly Mayhood closed out the final two innings without allowing any runs to secure the victory.

Against UW-Eau Claire, Hartford responded quickly after falling behind early but could not hold onto their mid-game lead. The Blugolds scored multiple runs late in the game, resulting in a loss for Hartford by mercy rule. Baran led at bat with three hits and an RBI, while junior Adelie Beebe and sophomore Lucy Lembo each added hits and RBIs of their own. Junior Gracie Hopkins started as pitcher for Hartford, followed by Mayhood and junior Alex Hassett.

The Hawks will have a day off before returning to play two more games in Florida on Monday.

These results reflect both competitive spirit and challenges faced by Hartford’s softball team as they continue their schedule.
