U.S. Representative John Larson, who has represented Connecticut’s 1st district in Congress since 1999, posted a series of messages on July 23, 2025, addressing local remembrance, child hunger initiatives, and an industry milestone.
In his first post of the day, Larson wrote: “I spoke on the House floor today to remember Louise M. Bailey. She was a champion for Hartford and a dedicated public servant, serving on the UConn Board of Trustees for 45 years. I send my condolences to her sister and my friend, Barbara Kennelly, and the entire Bailey family.” (July 23, 2025). The message highlights Bailey’s long tenure with the University of Connecticut and expresses sympathy to former U.S. Congress member Barbara Kennelly and her family.
Later that afternoon, Larson addressed food insecurity among children in Connecticut: “No child should go hungry in the United States of America. Thanks to funding we secured in Congress, no-cost summer meals and snacks are available at over 400 sites across the state. Visit https://t.co/CnwssuINMJ to find a site near you.” (July 23, 2025).
In an evening post recognizing industrial achievement in his district, Larson congratulated a major aerospace manufacturer: “Congratulations to @prattandwhitney on their 100th anniversary! Their machinists and engineers produce the most dependable engines in the world, including the F135. I’m proud to lead the fight to keep the eagle flying.” (July 23, 2025).
Larson’s statements reflect ongoing engagement with issues affecting Connecticut’s residents as well as longstanding connections within state leadership; he succeeded Barbara Kennelly as representative for Connecticut’s 1st district in 1999 after serving previously in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1948 and currently residing in East Hartford, Larson is also an alumnus of Central Connecticut State University.
