U.S. Representative John B. Larson, who has represented Connecticut’s 1st district in Congress since 1999, recently posted a series of statements on his official social media account addressing federal law enforcement practices, Social Security policy, and health care legislation.
On July 24, 2025, Larson expressed concern over the conduct of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. He stated: “Everyone should be alarmed when masked ICE agents with no identification detain residents in unmarked vans. I support the No Secret Police Act to require them to identify themselves and end these masking tactics. We’ll always stand up for the rights of our immigrant communities.”
Later that day, he criticized actions taken by the Trump Administration regarding Social Security. On July 24, 2025, he wrote: “The Trump Administration is dismantling Social Security before our very eyes, so they can slash and privatize your benefits. I’m fighting to enhance Social Security and invest in customer service, so seniors can get the help they need and the benefits they earned and deserve.”
The following day, on July 25, 2025, Larson commented on recent Republican-led health care legislation: “Republicans passed a bill to kick 15 million people off their health care & spike premiums, so the wealthy can get a tax cut. Democrats aren’t betting on billionaires. We’re fighting to protect access to care and lower premiums. It’s time to cut working families in on the deal.”
Larson’s comments reflect ongoing debates in Congress about immigration enforcement transparency, entitlement program reforms, and access to affordable health care. These issues have been central themes during his tenure as a legislator.
Larson was born in Hartford in 1948 and currently resides in East Hartford at age 74. He graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a BA in 1971 and previously served in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995 before joining Congress.
