Rep. John Larson, U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 1st district since 1999, addressed a range of national issues in a series of tweets on May 14, 2026. Larson’s posts covered energy policy in Puerto Rico, concerns over racial gerrymandering in the South, and the ongoing conflict involving U.S. forces in Iran.
In his first tweet at 19:08 UTC, Larson criticized federal decisions affecting Puerto Rico’s energy infrastructure: “Puerto Ricans deserve a secure and reliable power grid, especially when disaster strikes. After Trump officials redirected over $715 million in federal funding for energy resilience in Puerto Rico to fossil fuels, @RepPabloJose and I are demanding answers. It’s beyond shameful!”
Later that evening at 21:44 UTC, Larson turned his attention to voting rights and representation for Black voters in the South: “Republican racial gerrymanders could leave Black voters in the South with little to no representation in Congress by the end of this decade. As John Lewis would say, it’s time for some good trouble. Democrats must fight fire with fire to protect democracy from these attacks!”
At 22:45 UTC on the same day, Larson commented on President Trump’s military actions abroad: “Over 60 days into his illegal Iran war, President Trump is refusing to come before Congress for approval, still with no plan or exit strategy. Thirteen servicemembers have died, and Americans are paying more at the gas pump. I voted to withdraw our Armed Forces… again. Enough!”
Larson has served as Connecticut’s representative since succeeding Barbara Kennelly in 1999 and previously held office in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1948 and currently residing in East Hartford, he graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a BA degree in 1971.
