Rep. John Larson, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 1st district since 1999, has recently shared his views on several pressing issues via social media. These include concerns about tax policy, reproductive rights, and gun control legislation.
On June 9, 2025, Rep. Larson criticized the Republican tax plan, stating that it would benefit millionaires with an $89,000 tax cut while resulting in the loss of health coverage for 16 million Americans. He expressed concern that “The top 1% will be just fine.” Emphasizing Democratic efforts, he added that “Democrats are fighting for working families and the benefits they rely on!”
The following day, June 10, Rep. Larson addressed another issue regarding reproductive rights. He noted that while state law in Connecticut protects access to abortion care, there are ongoing attempts by Republicans in Congress to restrict purchasing plans covering abortion through the healthcare exchange. He stated that “Democrats are fighting to defeat this attack on reproductive freedom!”
Later on June 10, Rep. Larson turned his attention to gun violence and legislative measures aimed at addressing it. He announced his collaboration with fellow representatives Mike Thompson and Brian Fitzpatrick to introduce a bipartisan bill requiring universal background checks for gun purchases. Stressing the urgency of this matter, he declared that “Americans have waited far too long for action as communities have been torn apart by gun violence.” and called for a vote on this overdue initiative.
John B. Larson was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1948 and currently resides in East Hartford. A graduate of Central Connecticut State University with a BA obtained in 1971, he has served both at the state level as a Connecticut Senate member from 1987 to 1995 and at the federal level since succeeding Barbara Kennelly in Congress.
