Rep. John Larson, a U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 1st district since 1999, posted a series of statements on April 17, 2026, addressing foreign policy decisions, entitlement programs, and legal actions involving former President Donald Trump.
In his first post at 20:07 UTC, Larson criticized former President Trump’s military actions in Iran: “Donald Trump thinks he can send our troops into harm’s way without even making his case to Congress. Thirteen servicemembers have died, and now he’s threatening to annihilate an ‘entire civilization.’ It’s time to end this illegal war in Iran and rein in this reckless president.”
Later that evening at 21:27 UTC, Larson addressed Republican efforts regarding federal benefit programs: “Republicans tried to amend the Constitution to force cuts to Social Security and Medicare. We defeated this disastrous plan to raid your earned benefits! I will always fight to protect & strengthen the programs our seniors rely on after a lifetime of work.”
At 23:04 UTC the same day, Larson commented on legal maneuvers by Donald Trump: “Donald Trump has a long track record of filing frivolous lawsuits to pad his own pockets. This time, he’s suing himself so he can move $10 BILLION in taxpayer funds to his personal bank account. @RepThompson and I have a bill to stop this scam in its tracks. Let’s pass it!”
Larson has served as Connecticut’s 1st district representative since succeeding Barbara Kennelly in 1999 and previously held office in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1948 and currently residing in East Hartford at age 74, Larson is an alumnus of Central Connecticut State University.
