John B. Larson, currently serving as the U.S. Representative for Connecticut’s 1st district, has expressed his views on various national issues through a series of tweets over recent days. Larson, who succeeded Barbara Kennelly in Congress in 1999 and previously served in the Connecticut Senate, has been vocal about matters ranging from media funding to gun safety and foreign policy.
On June 20, 2025, Larson addressed an issue regarding federal funding for public broadcasting services. In his tweet, he stated: “Glad to see Connecticut stand with states across the country to challenge the President’s illegal order targeting PBS and NPR. Without federal funding, local stations would shutter, and PBS Kids programs would grind to a halt. We must all stand up to this abuse of power.” This statement highlights his stance against what he perceives as an overreach by the executive branch that could negatively impact public broadcasting services.
The following day, on June 21, Larson focused on gun safety legislation. He tweeted: “4.6 million kids in the United States live in a home with an unlocked, loaded gun. In Connecticut, Ethan Song lost his life far too soon because of an unsecured firearm. A federal standard for safe gun storage will save lives. We need to pass Ethan’s Law.” Here, Larson emphasizes the need for federal regulations on gun storage to prevent tragedies similar to that experienced by Ethan Song.
In another tweet posted on June 22 concerning military actions taken by President Trump against Iran without Congressional approval, Larson remarked: “President Trump did not seek authorization from Congress for last night’s strikes against Iran. We cannot afford to slip into another costly war in the Middle East without a strategy or explanation to Congress or the American people by the President and our military leaders.” His comment reflects concerns about engaging in international conflicts without legislative oversight or strategic planning.
John B. Larson was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1948 and currently resides in East Hartford at age 74. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Connecticut State University obtained in 1971.
