Rep. John Larson, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 1st district, has recently expressed his views on social media regarding Social Security and Independence Day celebrations.
On July 3, 2025, Rep. Larson addressed concerns about a promise made by President Trump regarding Social Security taxes. He stated that “President Trump promised NO TAX ON SOCIAL SECURITY, but that’s not in the bill either.” Additionally, he highlighted a report from Budget Hawks estimating that the bill could advance Social Security’s insolvency by a year, potentially leading to a 20% benefit cut by 2032.
Later that day, Larson commented on an administrative decision related to Social Security and immigration enforcement. He mentioned that “We spoke up and the Administration is backing off their plan to weaponize Social Security to force people out of our country.” However, he warned of continued interference with due process and benefits.
On July 4th, Larson extended holiday greetings to his constituents and fellow Americans. He wished everyone “Happy Independence Day to everyone in Connecticut and across the country,” encouraging a festive and safe celebration.
John B. Larson has been representing Connecticut’s 1st District since replacing Barbara Kennelly in 1999. Born in Hartford in 1948, he graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a BA in 1971 and resides in East Hartford.
