John B. Larson, a long-serving representative of Connecticut’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, has been vocal on issues concerning social welfare and health in recent communications. Larson, who succeeded Barbara Kennelly in 1999, has taken to Twitter to express his views on several pressing matters.

On April 1, 2025, Larson critiqued former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, alleging that they are “firing staff, closing offices, and cutting services at Social Security” with the intent to “slash & privatize it,” adding that Americans recognize such actions as deceitful. He emphasized that Democrats are striving to protect “EARNED BENEFITS.”

Later that day, Larson announced his participation in a hearing alongside House Democrats and Representative Hakeem Jeffries, focusing on how Trump and Musk’s purported plans are affecting individuals’ lives. He stated, “LIVE NOW: I’m with @HouseDemocrats and @RepJeffries for a hearing with Americans who are directly impacted by Trump and Musk’s scheme to slash & privatize Social Security!”

In another tweet, Larson addressed financial matters concerning his state, asserting, “Last week, the Trump Administration canceled $150 million for Connecticut to tackle mental health crises, addiction, bird flu, measles, and more.” He recognized Attorney General William Tong’s efforts to counter these cuts, stating, “Mr. President: Connecticut will see you in court!” to voice the state’s discontent over the funding withdrawal.
