Junior midfielder Lauren Samela was named Defensive Player of the Week by the Conference of New England, according to a March 16 announcement. Samela’s performance helped the Hartford Hawks women’s lacrosse team secure two wins, bringing their season record to 2-3.

Samela contributed significantly in both games last week. In a 17-3 victory over Wellesley, she scored two goals, provided two assists, and caused two turnovers. She continued her strong play in a 13-7 win against Keene State by causing four turnovers and collecting five ground balls.

Over the current season, Samela has accumulated 11 goals, five assists, nine ground balls, and eight caused turnovers. Her efforts have been key to the team’s recent success on the field.

The Hartford Hawks women’s lacrosse team is scheduled to play its home opener on March 17 against Wentworth, another member of the Conference of New England.

The Conference of New England was originally founded as the Commonwealth Coast Conference in 1984 and reconstituted under its current name in 2024. It is an NCAA Division III athletic conference with eleven full members and five associate members across New England. The conference oversees championships in twenty intercollegiate sports.
