Representative John B. Larson, who has served Connecticut’s 1st District in the U.S. Congress since 1999, recently addressed several issues through a series of posts on social media. His statements covered topics ranging from federal policy and local weather advisories to concerns about Social Security services.
On July 15, 2025, Larson criticized recent actions by the Supreme Court and the Trump administration regarding the Department of Education. He stated, “The Supreme Court continues to look the other way as this administration skirts the law. President Trump can’t shut down the Department of Education without Congress. It’s past time for Republicans to join us and protect our kids from these cuts.”
Later that day, Larson issued a public safety advisory concerning high temperatures expected in Connecticut. In his post dated July 15, 2025, he wrote, “Connecticut will face extremely hot and humid conditions this week. Temperatures could reach up to 100°. Check on your neighbors, hydrate, and stay indoors as much as possible. Call 2-1-1 or visit https://t.co/rqJbFemGhv to find nearby cooling centers and available resources.”
In another statement posted on July 15, 2025, Larson expressed concern over staffing and service reductions at Social Security under Elon Musk’s ‘DOGE’ initiative and actions by the Trump Administration regarding customer service data. He said, “Elon Musk’s ‘DOGE’ cut staff and slashed services at Social Security – making it harder to access your EARNED BENEFITS. The Trump Administration purged customer service data off the internet to hide the impact of these cuts. We’re demanding transparency!”
John B. Larson was born in Hartford in 1948 and currently resides in East Hartford. Before his tenure in Congress beginning in 1999—succeeding Barbara Kennelly—he served in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995. Larson holds a BA from Central Connecticut State University.
