Representative John B. Larson, who has served Connecticut’s 1st District in the U.S. Congress since 1999, recently addressed a series of national policy concerns through his social media posts. Larson, who succeeded Barbara Kennelly and previously served in the Connecticut Senate, used his platform to solicit feedback from constituents and criticize recent federal actions impacting social programs, education funding, and trade policy.
On July 10, 2025, Larson responded to local concerns regarding potential cuts to critical federal assistance programs. He stated: “I have heard from residents across CT-01 who are concerned about the Republicans’ tax plan. If cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, or other critical programs will impact you or your loved ones, I want to hear from you. You can share your story here.”
The following day, on July 11, 2025, Larson criticized the Trump Administration for delaying nearly $7 billion in school funding nationwide. He wrote: “The Trump Administration is withholding nearly $7 billion in funding for schools across the country, risking layoffs and program delays. I’m demanding answers from the Administration. These funds must be released, so our educators have the resources they need.”
Later on July 11, 2025, Larson addressed President Trump’s tariff policies and their economic impact on American households. He noted: “President Trump’s tariffs could raise costs on the average household by $2,400/year. A lower court already ruled he does not have the authority to impose these tariffs. I joined Democrats to submit a brief to the appeals court to challenge this tax on you.”
John B. Larson was born in Hartford in 1948 and currently resides in East Hartford. He holds a BA from Central Connecticut State University.
