U.S. Representative John B. Larson, who represents Connecticut’s 1st district in Congress, addressed recent national events and political issues in a series of posts on his official social media account.
On March 12, 2026, Larson commented on two violent incidents that occurred the same day: “Today, two shootings have rocked our nation – at a synagogue in Michigan and at Old Dominion University in Virgina. Americans should be able to practice their faith and go to school without threat of violence. We need an assault weapons ban and universal background checks now.”
Later that evening, he criticized Republican efforts regarding abortion legislation, stating on March 12: “Republicans won’t give up their plans for a national abortion ban. Now, they’re trying to strip access to safe abortion medications. I trust women, not politicians, to make their own healthcare decisions. We’ll never stop fighting for reproductive rights! https://t.co/ZuE8dVxD6j”
The following day, Larson addressed concerns about civil liberties: “Immigrant families, LGBTQ+ Americans, and our very freedom of speech have all come under attack.
I’ll never back down from the fight to defend our civil rights and civil liberties. I’m proud to receive a 93% on this year’s @ACLU scorecard. We the people will not be silenced! https://t.co/lsOyqhDjtb” (March 13).
Larson has represented Connecticut’s 1st District since 1999 after replacing Barbara Kennelly and previously served in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1948 and currently residing in East Hartford, Larson graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971.
