Rep. John Larson, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 1st district since 1999, recently addressed several pressing issues through his social media platform. Larson, who succeeded Barbara Kennelly and has a background in both state and federal legislative bodies, shared his perspectives on humanitarian aid, Social Security, and labor rights.
On May 8, 2025, Rep. Larson called for immediate action regarding the situation in Gaza. He stated that “The free flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza must resume immediately.” He emphasized the necessity of a renewed ceasefire agreement to halt ongoing conflicts, facilitate the return of hostages, and advance towards lasting peace.
In another statement on May 9, 2025, Larson criticized President Trump and Elon Musk for their approach to Social Security. He expressed concern over potential dismantling efforts by stating “President Trump and Elon Musk are dismantling Social Security from within.” He reaffirmed his commitment to protecting this vital system against cuts by asserting that it is “the people’s money.”
Later that day, Larson highlighted the achievements of skilled machinists in East Hartford and Middletown, Connecticut. He advocated for fair treatment from RTX Corporation amidst record profits and demand by declaring “Our skilled machinists build the most capable engines in the world right here in East Hartford and Middletown.” He insisted these workers deserve a contract reflecting their contributions with appropriate pay, benefits, and job security.
John B. Larson was born in Hartford in 1948 and continues to reside in East Hartford. A graduate of Central Connecticut State University with a BA obtained in 1971, he has dedicated much of his career to public service at both state and national levels.
