Rep. John Larson, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 1st district since 1999, shared his views on labor and education issues through a series of tweets on May 5, 2025.
In a tweet posted at 16:50 UTC, Larson addressed the situation of more than 3,000 workers from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) union in East Hartford and Middletown. He stated that these workers “build the most capable engines in the world” and emphasized that during a time of record profits and demand, they “deserve a fair contract from RTX” that acknowledges their contributions and provides job security.
Later, at 18:15 UTC, Larson expressed gratitude towards teachers both in Connecticut and nationwide. He highlighted the importance of supporting educators to ensure they are “paid fairly” and have necessary resources for student success. This message was part of his acknowledgment of Teacher Appreciation Week.
In another tweet at 21:11 UTC, Larson criticized a bill proposed by House Republicans that would require federal workers to pay more into their retirement funds while earning less upon retirement. He described this as a scheme designed to fund tax breaks for the wealthy by cutting earned benefits for Americans, stating emphatically, “Count me out!”
John B. Larson was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1948 and currently resides in East Hartford. He graduated with a BA from Central Connecticut State University in 1971.
