Rep. John B. Larson, serving the U.S. Congress in Connecticut’s 1st district, has been vocal on social media regarding recent policy proposals from the Republican side under the Trump Administration. Known for his longstanding public service since 1999 and his background in the Connecticut Senate, Larson is taking a firm stance on several key issues affecting his district.
On April 25, 2025, Larson criticized the proposed Republican budget, arguing that “The Trump-Republican budget proposes the largest cut to Medicaid in our nation’s history.” He highlighted that such budget cuts could potentially “eliminate coverage for 28,100 CT-01 residents.” Democrats, he asserted, are striving to safeguard programs like Medicaid from these substantial reductions.
Two days later, on April 27, 2025, Larson expressed concern about federal support for libraries. He pointed out that “Our libraries offer opportunities and resources for residents of all ages.” However, according to Larson, the Trump Administration is withdrawing previously approved grants, including those that benefit “deaf & visually impaired readers.” He affirmed his intent to counteract these financial cuts.
On April 28, 2025, Larson addressed another educational concern, citing that in Connecticut, “the Department of Education supports 88,000 kids with disabilities & helps 63,000 students afford a college education.” Larson challenged the President’s attempt to reduce these services through executive order, announcing his intent to “file a brief in court to stop him.”
John B. Larson, who was born in Hartford, Connecticut, holds a BA from Central Connecticut State University and has a longstanding commitment to representing and advocating for his district in the U.S. Congress.
