Rep. John Larson, who represents Connecticut’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to address issues ranging from religious discrimination to national service and immigration policy.
On March 9, 2026, Larson criticized actions by members of Congress during Ramadan, writing: “This is the second time during Ramadan that a Republican Member of Congress has gone after Muslim Americans. When will Republican leadership step up and condemn this bigotry? This is beneath the dignity of Congress and the United States of America.”
Later that day, Larson highlighted bipartisan legislative efforts related to AmeriCorps volunteers. In a post dated March 9, 2026, he stated: “Kicking off #AmeriCorpsWeek, @RepDonBacon and I introduced a bill to cut taxes for AmeriCorps volunteers and help them afford tuition or repay student loans. We’re working together to encourage young people to pursue national service. Let’s get this done!”
On March 10, 2026, Larson discussed immigration challenges faced by his constituents. He wrote: “I was proud to bring the Ricardos to Washington as my guests. The Trump Administration’s immigration application ban is preventing Marlon’s father from becoming a citizen after 17 years, simply because he is Cuban. That’s discrimination. We cannot let this stand!”
Larson has served in Congress since 1999 after succeeding Barbara Kennelly and previously held office in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1948 and currently residing in East Hartford at age 74, Larson graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a BA in 1971.
