Rep. John Larson, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 1st district, has been vocal about recent legislative developments via social media. On May 15, 2025, he addressed issues concerning tax policy and education funding, as well as acknowledged the contributions of a notable advocate for seniors.
In his first tweet on May 15, Rep. Larson expressed concerns over Republican efforts to implement tax breaks for the wealthy while simultaneously reducing Pell Grant eligibility. He highlighted the worries of parents like Deborah who fear their children might be unable to afford college education due to these proposed changes, contrasting this with tax benefits potentially afforded to billionaires such as Elon Musk. “Republicans are trying to force through tax breaks for the wealthy – and also slash Pell Grant eligibility.”
Later that day, Rep. Larson criticized a Republican tax bill that would continue taxing Social Security benefits for 24 million Americans. He mentioned offering an amendment aimed at ceasing this taxation, which was unanimously rejected by Republicans. His tweet questioned whether promises made were being broken in light of these actions. “PROMISES MADE, PROMISES…. BROKEN?”
In another post on May 15, Rep. Larson joined colleagues in congratulating Judy Stein on her career with CMAorg (Center for Medicare Advocacy). He commended her advocacy for seniors both in Connecticut and nationwide and acknowledged her leadership role in enabling Medicare to negotiate drug prices effectively. “Glad to join my colleagues to congratulate Judy Stein on her career with @CMAorg.”
John B. Larson has represented Connecticut’s 1st District since replacing Barbara Kennelly in 1999 and previously served in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995.
