John B. Larson, currently serving in the U.S. Congress and representing Connecticut’s 1st district since 1999, recently shared his perspectives on a range of pressing issues. These issues include Social Security reform, changes to AmeriCorps under Musk’s leadership, and advocacy for the Equality Act. Larson’s public statements reveal his commitment to addressing policies affecting Social Security, volunteer initiatives, and anti-discrimination efforts.
On April 28, 2025, Larson expressed concern about potential cuts to Social Security following comments from Elon Musk, stating Republicans’ intention to reduce benefits to fund tax breaks. “Elon Musk said Social Security was a ‘key target’ for cuts. The Republicans want to slash your earned benefits to pay for tax breaks for billionaires. It’s long overdue for Congress to enhance Social Security – not cut it – by ensuring the wealthy finally pay their fair share!” he wrote.
Later on the same day, Larson addressed the impact of Musk’s “DOGE,” a policy perceived as dismantling AmeriCorps. He highlighted the negative impact on volunteers involved in disaster recovery initiatives. “Elon Musk’s ‘DOGE’ is dismantling AmeriCorps, even recalling volunteers building homes for hurricane victims. I stand with the Connecticut residents and volunteers nationwide who were dismissed after answering the call to service. The Trump Administration must reverse course!” he declared.
The following day, Larson underscored his support for the Equality Act, which aims to protect individuals from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. “No one should face discrimination because of who they are or who they love. I’m cosponsoring the #EqualityAct to protect Americans from discrimination based on their sexual orientation and gender identity.” he tweeted.
John B. Larson, born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1948 and residing in East Hartford, graduated with a BA from Central Connecticut State University in 1971.
