Rep. John Larson, U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 1st district since 1999, addressed recent legislative developments and local initiatives in a series of posts on his social media account.
On March 18, 2026, Larson commented on a proposed constitutional amendment targeting Social Security and Medicare, stating: “Republicans put a constitutional amendment on the floor that would force drastic cuts to Social Security and Medicare. Tonight, we defeated their scheme.
I will never let them cut your EARNED BENEFITS. We need to expand Social Security by making the wealthy pay their fair share!”
The following day, Larson referenced the loss of two Bristol police officers and discussed efforts to improve public safety infrastructure: “4 years ago, we lost 2 Bristol police officers in the line of duty. I secured $3 million to construct the first-of-its-kind active shooter training facility in New England. This project will help keep our first responders safe & bolster emergency response.” The initiative aims to enhance training opportunities for first responders in New England.
Later on March 19, Larson addressed voting rights concerns related to new legislation: “Republicans want to force through the ‘SAVE America Act,’ the worst voting restrictions since Jim Crow. It would make it harder for married women, servicemembers, Native Americans, and students to vote. I will always stand up to attacks on our democracy. Your vote is your voice!”
Larson has served in Congress since replacing Barbara Kennelly in 1999 and previously held office in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1948 and residing in East Hartford, he holds a BA from Central Connecticut State University.
