Rep. John Larson, who represents Connecticut’s 1st congressional district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on July 25, 2025, addressing issues ranging from Social Security and tax policy to healthcare advocacy and education funding.
In a post published at 18:01 UTC, Larson criticized Republican legislative efforts regarding Social Security. He wrote, “The GOP’s ‘Big Bill’ breaks the President’s promise on Social Security and puts benefits at risk… all while billionaires get a giant tax cut. I’m fighting to enhance benefits for our seniors and pay for it by ensuring the wealthy contribute their fair share. Let’s act!”
Later that day, at 18:51 UTC, Larson highlighted his ongoing engagement with constituents impacted by health conditions. He stated, “It was great to catch up with Kara Satalino, my guest to President Trump’s Joint Address to Congress, and her daughter, Cecelia – who is living with Cystic Fibrosis. Together, with @CFF_Connecticut, we’ll keep fighting to protect access to care and invest in medical research!”
At 20:30 UTC the same day, Larson commented on federal education funding decisions under the Trump administration. He posted, “The Trump Administration froze billions in approved funding for after school programs, career counseling, and mental health services. We wrote to Secretary McMahon and Congressional leaders to demand action. I’m glad to see them back down and release these funds to our schools.”
Larson has represented Connecticut’s 1st district since replacing Barbara Kennelly in 1999 and previously served in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1948 and residing in East Hartford as of this writing at age 74, he is an alumnus of Central Connecticut State University.
