Rep. John Larson, U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 1st district since 1999, recently shared several updates on his official social media account concerning students, public libraries, and national security issues.
On April 18, 2026, Larson highlighted an event in Washington D.C. supporting Connecticut students: “It was great to join my colleagues to celebrate students from Connecticut pursuing a college education in our nation’s capital. I was inspired by our young people’s passion and dedication to public service and am proud to represent them in Congress!”
Later that day, he addressed actions taken by Secretary Pete Hegseth regarding military operations: “Secretary Hegseth gave an unlawful order to strike boats in the Caribbean. He leaked classified information that put our troops at risk. He’s carrying out Trump’s illegal war in Iran.
Pete Hegseth must be held accountable for his failures at the Pentagon. He should be impeached.” This statement reflects ongoing debates over foreign policy and military oversight.
In a subsequent post, Larson announced new funding for local resources: “I was glad to announce $500,000 in new funding to help fully reopen the Hartford Public Library downtown. I’m excited about the resources they’ll continue to provide our community, and will always support our public libraries and the work they do!”
Larson has been active in Connecticut politics for decades, having previously served in the state senate from 1987 to 1995 before joining Congress. Born in Hartford in 1948 and currently residing in East Hartford, he is an alumnus of Central Connecticut State University (BA, 1971).
