John B. Larson, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 1st district since 1999, has recently expressed his views on various national issues through a series of tweets. Born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1948 and a graduate of Central Connecticut State University, Larson has been an active political figure since his tenure in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995.
On May 15, 2025, Larson commented on the economic impact of President Trump’s tariffs. He stated that “Running errands just got more expensive. President Trump’s tariffs will cost families an additional $2,800 a year.” He criticized the Republican members of the Ways and Means Committee for voting to maintain what he described as a tax burden on families and emphasized that Democrats are working towards reducing costs.
The following day, May 16, Larson highlighted the achievements of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). He noted that “The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has recovered $21 BILLION for Americans scammed by big corporations.” Larson voiced opposition to President Trump’s efforts to dismantle the agency and mentioned his collaboration with Senator Chris Dodd in court briefs defending its role.
Later on May 16, Larson reflected on legislative progress regarding air travel consumer protections. He announced that “Our legislation to expand consumer protections for air travelers became law one year ago.” The legislation ensures automatic refunds for delays, round-the-clock customer service access, family seating rights, and improved accommodations for disabilities.
