His comments focused on the perceived threats to these issues by former President Donald Trump and entrepreneur Elon Musk.
On March 19, 2025, Larson expressed gratitude towards the Connecticut AFL-CIO for hosting him at a town hall meeting with workers. He emphasized solidarity in protecting organizational rights and mentioned efforts to safeguard key social programs: “Thank you to the @ConnAFLCIO for hosting me last night for a town hall meeting with workers… We will stand strong to protect the right to organize against Trump’s attacks and work together to safeguard & strengthen Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security!”
Later that day, Larson addressed concerns over changes in Social Security services under Trump and Musk’s influence. He criticized their actions as attempts to privatize the system through service reductions: “You pay into Social Security with every paycheck. It is an EARNED BENEFIT… Trump and Musk are cutting phone services and closing field offices across the country. That’s nothing more than a backdoor benefit cut as they try to privatize the system.”
