U.S. Representative John B. Larson, who has represented Connecticut’s 1st District in Congress since 1999, recently addressed several national and international issues through a series of posts on social media. Larson, a Democrat from Hartford, commented on federal education policy, violence in the West Bank, and the death of a Connecticut resident abroad.
On July 15, 2025, Larson criticized actions by President Trump regarding federal education policy. He stated that “President Trump has no authority to shut down the Department of Education, but he’s dismantling services & blocking approved funding for after school programs, counseling and mental health services in Connecticut schools. If the Supreme Court won’t step in, Congress needs to act.”
Later that day, Larson addressed ongoing violence in the West Bank and legislative efforts to address it. On July 15, 2025 he wrote: “Violence in the West Bank clearly goes against the goal of achieving peace for Israelis and Palestinians. I am a cosponsor of the West Bank Violence Prevention Act to sanction instigators of settler violence, and I urge all my colleagues to join in demanding accountability.”
In another post dated July 15, 2025, Larson expressed condolences following the death of Sayfollah Musallet from Connecticut. He called for an investigation into Musallet’s death in the West Bank: “My heart goes out to Sayfollah Musallet’s family in Connecticut and the Palestinian American community. The settlers responsible for Sayfollah’s death in the West Bank must be brought to justice. I join with his family in calling for a formal inquiry and an FBI investigation.”
John B. Larson was born in Hartford in 1948 and resides in East Hartford. He graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a BA in 1971 and previously served as a member of the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995 before entering Congress.
