Rep. John Larson, who represents Connecticut’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed a series of concerns through posts on his social media account regarding immigration enforcement, economic policy, and education funding.
On July 23, 2025, Larson raised alarm about an incident involving an Afghan visa holder in East Hartford. He stated: “It should alarm everyone when an Afghan visa holder is detained by masked ICE agents into an unmarked car in East Hartford. I join with @RepJahanaHayes and our colleagues to call for Zia’s immediate release and accountability for this abuse of power.”
The following day, July 24, 2025, Larson criticized current federal policies affecting working families. In his post he wrote: “While families face rising costs, this administration is cutting their health care and food assistance so billionaires can get a tax cut.
President Trump might think wages are too high, but Democrats know it’s time to raise the minimum wage for workers trying to make ends meet.”
Later that same day, Larson commented on restored educational funding in Connecticut: “When the Trump Administration illegally blocked funding for Connecticut school districts, our delegation demanded they reverse course. I’m glad to see after-school programs restored. We’ll keep fighting so our kids & teachers have the resources they need!”
Larson has represented Connecticut’s 1st District since 1999 after succeeding Barbara Kennelly and previously served in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1948 and currently residing in East Hartford, he graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971.
