Rep. John Larson, a U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 1st district since 1999, has voiced his concerns on social media regarding recent legislative actions by Republicans in Congress. On May 13, 2025, he addressed issues related to tax cuts and their implications for healthcare and Social Security.
In a tweet from May 13, Larson expressed opposition to the Republican proposal of tax cuts for billionaires. He stated that these cuts would be financed by reducing healthcare access for 13 million Americans. Larson mentioned receiving feedback from constituents who would be adversely affected by this bill and affirmed his commitment to opposing it.
Later that day, Larson announced via Twitter that he and his colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee were actively contesting the Republican tax cut plan. This post underscored the ongoing debate within the committee regarding fiscal policies favoring wealthier individuals.
On the same date, Larson criticized another aspect of Republican policy through another tweet. He accused President Trump and House Republicans of reneging on their promise not to tax Social Security benefits. According to Larson, their bill would result in 24 million Americans paying taxes on these benefits. He contrasted this with a Democratic plan aimed at providing genuine tax relief for seniors rather than further benefiting billionaires.
John B. Larson was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1948 and resides in East Hartford. A graduate of Central Connecticut State University with a BA earned in 1971, he previously served in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995 before succeeding Barbara Kennelly in Congress.
