John B. Larson, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 1st district, has recently taken to social media to express his concerns over proposed cuts affecting essential services. In a series of tweets, he addresses potential impacts on Social Security and food assistance programs.

On March 25, 2025, Larson tweeted about the potential consequences of reducing phone services and laying off staff at the Social Security Administration. He stated that such actions would lead to “the delay, denial, and disruption of your Social Security,” emphasizing that this constitutes a benefit cut. “Make no mistake about it: cutting off phone services and laying off staff will mean the delay, denial, and disruption of your Social Security.”

Later that day, Larson criticized former President Trump and Elon Musk for their roles in pushing for these reductions at the Social Security Administration. He argued that their intention is to weaken the system in order to justify privatization efforts. Larson called on House Republicans to oppose these measures to protect constituents from what he describes as “devastating cuts.” “Trump-Musk are rushing to lay off staff and gut phone services at the Social Security Administration.”

In another tweet posted on March 25th, Larson highlighted additional cuts affecting food assistance programs under Trump’s policies. He warned that these cuts would deprive millions of Americans in need by canceling scheduled deliveries from Connecticut Foodshare intended for local food banks across the state. “The latest round of Trump cuts to food assistance will take millions of meals out of the hands of Americans in need.”
