Rep. John Larson, a U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 1st district since 1999, posted a series of statements on March 16, 2026, addressing recent actions by former President Donald Trump and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem.
In his first post of the day, Larson criticized the Trump administration’s handling of the Environmental Protection Agency: “Trump’s mass firings at the EPA put an end to critical research that has been used to take on toxic chemicals and protect clean air and water. While he puts polluter profits over people, we’re fighting to restore this important work to protect public health and our environment.” (March 16, 2026)
Later that afternoon, Larson commented on what he described as disregard for constitutional norms by political leaders: “We are a nation of laws. Last time I checked, that doesn’t mean Rule of Trump or Rule of Noem. They treat the Constitution like a suggestion, but we are fighting back to protect the rights of citizens and our immigrant neighbors. Their lawlessness is not the America we know.” (March 16, 2026)
In his final tweet that day, Larson focused on economic issues related to tariffs imposed during Trump’s presidency: “Trump’s illegal tariffs cost Connecticut residents an estimated $691.9 MILLION. @RepHorsford and I have a bill to get small businesses and consumers the refunds they’re owed. The American people need relief now!” (March 16, 2026)
Larson has represented Connecticut’s 1st District in Congress since replacing Barbara Kennelly in 1999. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1948 and currently residing in East Hartford at age 74, Larson graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a BA in 1971.
