John B. Larson, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 1st district, recently expressed his views on President Trump’s policies through a series of tweets. Serving since 1999, Larson has been vocal about issues related to Social Security and tax reforms.
On July 3, 2025, Larson criticized President Trump for not fulfilling his promise regarding Social Security taxes. He stated that “President Trump promised NO TAX ON SOCIAL SECURITY, but his bill fails to deliver. It actually pushes Social Security closer to insolvency.” Larson emphasized that Democrats aim to stop taxing benefits and enhance Social Security rather than cut it.
Later the same day, Larson highlighted disparities in the proposed tax cuts under President Trump’s administration. He noted that “The wealthiest 0.1% – millionaires and billionaires like Elon Musk – will see an average tax cut of $309,000 next year, while people making $50,000 only get 67¢ per day.”
In another tweet posted simultaneously, Larson commented on the priorities of President Trump’s administration concerning tax cuts for the wealthy. He remarked that “Tax cuts for the wealthy have always been President Trump’s top priority. House Republicans just voted to send them to his desk. Every Democrat voted NO.” He further mentioned that these tax breaks would result in millions losing their health care and food assistance.
John B. Larson was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1948 and currently resides in East Hartford. He graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a BA in 1971.
