Rep. John Larson, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 1st district, shared his views on recent political developments through a series of tweets. Larson has been an active member of Congress since 1999, succeeding Barbara Kennelly. Born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1948, he resides in East Hartford and holds a BA from Central Connecticut State University.
On June 4, 2025, Larson commented on a report regarding the Republican tax bill. He stated that “A new nonpartisan report found that the Republican tax bill would explode the deficit by $2.4 TRILLION and leave 16 million Americans uninsured.” He criticized the bill for benefiting billionaires with larger tax breaks and quoted Elon Musk’s opinion on it as a “disgusting abomination.”
The following day, June 5, 2025, Larson expressed his opposition to President Trump’s proposed legislation aimed at defunding PBS and NPR. He declared his stance with clarity: “I am a NO on President Trump’s bill to defund PBS and NPR.” He argued against shutting down programs like Sesame Street to benefit Wall Street interests.
Later that day, Larson addressed the sudden termination of AmeriCorps workers and volunteers by the administration without prior notice. He highlighted the impact on essential services for seniors, veterans, and hurricane victims who lost their homes. Larson extended gratitude to Attorney General William Tong and 24 states for taking legal action to counter these cuts: “Thank you to @AGWilliamTong and the 24 states who took this case to court to halt these senseless cuts.”
