Rep. John Larson, who represents Connecticut’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, shared a series of posts on March 11, 2026, addressing federal spending priorities, concerns about Social Security oversight, and new funding for local firefighters.
In a post made at 17:19 UTC, Larson questioned government budget allocations by listing various high-cost items and comparing them to cuts in health care and nutrition assistance: “Grand piano: $100,000 Ballroom: $300 million Private jets and commercials: $420 million Kicking Americans off their health care and SNAP to pay for it all: Priceless! Is there room in the budget for things the American people need?”
Later that evening at 20:13 UTC, Larson raised concerns about Social Security data security following testimony from Commissioner Bisignano before the House Ways and Means Committee. He posted: “Commissioner Bisignano appeared before the @WaysMeansCmte just last week. He refused to answer my questions about data theft at Social Security. Now, another whistleblower report has come out alleging criminal misconduct. Got anything to say now? Americans deserve answers.”
At 21:26 UTC on the same day, Larson announced new federal support for local emergency services in East Hartford. He wrote: “Today, I announced $1 MILLION in new federal funding for @EastHartfordFD to replace the outdated Station 2 and offer new training to better combat intensifying house fires. These new investments will help our firefighters stay safe on the job and keep serving the community well.”
Larson has served as a U.S. Representative since 1999 after replacing Barbara Kennelly. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he was a member of the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1948 and currently residing in East Hartford, Larson graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a BA in 1971.
