Rep. John Larson, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 1st district, has been active on social media discussing various legislative initiatives and policy critiques. Since replacing Barbara Kennelly in 1999, Larson has been vocal about issues concerning housing, taxation, and social security.
On June 2, 2025, Rep. Larson announced his introduction of the bipartisan Neighborhood Homes Investment Act alongside Rep. Mike Kelly. In his tweet, he stated that the bill aims to reduce costs and increase affordable housing supply by spurring new home development and revitalizing vacant homes through new incentives.
The following day, June 3, 2025, Larson criticized a GOP tax plan via Twitter, describing it as the largest cut to Medicaid in U.S. history aimed at funding tax breaks for the top one percent. He expressed gratitude towards Andrea Barton Reeves for participating in a forum to discuss potential impacts on Connecticut residents.
Later that day, Larson addressed Social Security benefits on Twitter. He emphasized that Social Security is an “EARNED BENEFIT” rather than an entitlement and argued against cutting these benefits to provide tax breaks for billionaires. Instead, he advocated for enhancing Social Security to prevent retirees from falling into poverty after years of work.
John B. Larson was born in Hartford in 1948 and currently resides in East Hartford. He graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a BA in 1971 and served in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995 before his tenure in Congress began.
