Representative John B. Larson, who has served Connecticut’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress since 1999, recently addressed several policy concerns on social media regarding Social Security administration and tariffs under President Trump’s administration. His statements focused on transparency, consumer costs, and accountability for federal agencies.
On July 14, 2025, Rep. Larson criticized President Trump’s Social Security Commissioner for their comments about digital currency and data privacy: “President Trump’s Social Security Commissioner said he’s a ‘DOGE person.’ When they gained unfettered access to your personal data – even medical records – he called it ‘a major victory.’ But now it’s not his job to bring ‘DOGE’ before Congress? Americans deserve answers!”
Later that day, Larson commented on the impact of tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, stating his support for legislation to counteract these measures: “Cost-raising tariffs mean higher prices at the grocery store and everywhere else. Families should not be paying for President Trump’s reckless tariffs. I’m cosponsoring @RepLindaSanchez’s bill to stop this executive overreach and restore our checks and balances.” This tweet was posted on July 14, 2025.
In another statement on July 14, 2025, Larson discussed efforts by House Democrats to restore public access to Social Security customer service data that he alleges was removed by the current administration: “I joined Democrats on the @WaysMeansCmte to demand the restoration of Social Security customer service data that this administration scrubbed from the internet. After ‘DOGE’ cut staff, closed offices & slashed services, they want to prevent anyone from holding them accountable.”
John B. Larson was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1948 and currently resides in East Hartford. He earned a BA from Central Connecticut State University in 1971 and previously served in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995 before entering Congress.
