Rep. John Larson, U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 1st district since 1999, has used his social media platform to raise concerns about recent federal policy decisions affecting Connecticut residents and national issues.
On September 2, 2025, Larson posted on X: “The Trump USDA wants to move services for local farms out of New England… and all the way to North Carolina. They could shut down 3 offices that work directly with Connecticut farmers. @RepJahanaHayes, @rosadelauro, @RepJoeCourtney and I are speaking out to stop this plan!” He referenced a proposal by the U.S. Department of Agriculture under former President Donald Trump’s administration that would relocate services away from New England, potentially impacting three offices that serve Connecticut farmers.
Later that evening, on September 3, 2025, Larson addressed Social Security in another post: “More than 70 million Americans rely on Social Security to make ends meet. But Trump and his ‘DOGE’ want to slash & privatize your EARNED BENEFITS. The GOP Budget threatens the program’s future. Enough. Democrats are ready to act to not just protect but enhance Social Security!” In this message, he criticized efforts he attributes to Republicans and former President Trump to reduce or privatize Social Security benefits.
In a third post on September 3, 2025, Larson commented on efforts related to the Epstein Files: “Trump’s White House is working the phones to block a vote on the Epstein Files. What are they hiding? Survivors of Epstein’s abuse network deserve justice – no matter how powerful the perpetrators may be. Proud to join with @RepRoKhanna and @RepThomasMassie to demand a VOTE.” He expressed support for holding a vote concerning documents connected with Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse network and joined colleagues in calling for legislative action.
Larson has represented Connecticut’s 1st Congressional District since replacing Barbara Kennelly in 1999 and previously served in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1948 and currently residing in East Hartford at age 74, he graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a BA in 1971.
