John B. Larson, a long-serving U.S. Congressman representing Connecticut’s 1st district, has expressed significant concerns over a proposed bill through a series of tweets dated July 3, 2025. The tweets address the potential financial and social impacts of the legislation on national debt, Medicare, clean energy incentives, and tax cuts.
In his first tweet on July 3, Larson highlights the potential financial ramifications of the bill: “Additionally, this bill will explode the national debt by $3.94 trillion over the next ten years – and that’s a conservative estimate.” He further warns that this could lead to nearly $500 billion in cuts to Medicare, adversely affecting doctors and hospitals.
Another tweet from Larson on the same day points out the consequences for clean energy initiatives: “This bill eliminates tax credits Democrats passed to deploy clean energy, including solar & hydrogen.” According to Larson, repealing these incentives would increase energy costs by $344 for an average household in Connecticut and result in a loss of 6,500 clean energy jobs within the state.
In his final tweet from July 3rd, Larson criticizes both the scope of tax cuts for billionaires included in the bill and its detrimental effects on families: “This bill is unprecedented in both its tax cuts for billionaires, but also how it hurts families.” He questions how his GOP colleagues can support such measures and commits to advocating for programs like Social Security.
Larson has been serving in Congress since replacing Barbara Kennelly in 1999. Prior to his congressional career, he served in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995. Born in Hartford in 1948 and currently residing in East Hartford at age 74, Larson holds a BA from Central Connecticut State University.
