Rep. John Larson, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 1st district since 1999, recently expressed his concerns on social media regarding the Republican tax bill and its implications. Larson has a long history in politics, having previously served in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995.
On May 22, 2025, Larson posted about the proceedings of the Rules Committee, stating that “After 22 hours in the Rules Committee, Republicans are bringing their tax bill to the House floor.” He noted that his amendment to stop taxing Social Security was blocked while more cuts were added to Medicaid. He assured that Democrats would continue their efforts against what he termed an “outrageous plan.”
Later that day, he commented on the House session held overnight by Republicans to pass what he described as a “billionaire cash grab.” In his tweet at 12:05 PM UTC, he mentioned that while wealthy individuals would benefit from tax cuts, millions would face healthcare losses and continued taxation on Social Security benefits. Larson urged for continued public discourse as the bill moved towards Senate consideration.
In another update at 12:23 PM UTC, Larson announced a postponement of a virtual discussion with the Connecticut House delegation due to ongoing debates over proposed cuts affecting Medicaid, Medicare, and food assistance programs intended to finance tax reductions for billionaires.
John B. Larson was born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1948 and currently resides in East Hartford. A graduate of Central Connecticut State University with a BA obtained in 1971, he succeeded Barbara Kennelly in Congress.
