The group will read & discuss, On the Beach, the 1957 apocalyptic novel written by Nevil Shute. World War III has destroyed the entire Northern Hemisphere & deadly radiation is spreading towards Australia bringing certain death to the few remaining survivors. Among these survivors is an American submarine captain & his crew. When a faint Morse code signal is heard transmitting somewhere near Seattle the captain leads his crew into the ruined world looking for signs of life. As the radiation nears, each character deals with impending death differently. The novel is a very convincing portrayal of how ordinary people might face the most unimaginable nightmare.
Copies of the book will be available at the library & online. Please REGISTER ONLINE or call the library 860-844-5275
