Rep. John Larson, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 1st district, recently raised concerns over potential budget cuts and their impact on healthcare, the workforce, and key public programs. Larson, serving since 1999, voiced his apprehensions through a series of tweets dated April 4, 2025. Larson has a history of public service, first serving in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995.

In a tweet posted on April 4, 2025, Larson warned of significant consequences from a proposed budget plan. "Over 48,800 CT-01 children could lose their health care if the Trump-House Republican budget plan passes," he stated. Together with Rep. Joe Courtney, Larson visited Connecticut Children's Medical Center to witness the potential effects firsthand, vowing to fight the proposed cuts.

Later that day, Larson addressed mass layoffs affecting the region's marine economy, stating, "More than 60,000 Connecticut workers contribute to our state's marine economy." According to Larson, the administration's actions, including budget cuts and dismissals at NOAA, could severely damage the workforce's ability to respond to climate change.

In another tweet that evening, Larson expressed concern over actions affecting 9/11 first responders. He noted, "Elon Musk's 'DOGE' tried to cut the World Trade Center Health Program before, but they backed off... Now the Trump Administration is back at it, cutting the staff that serve 9/11 first responders." Larson stressed the bipartisan effort to demand the cessation of these actions.
