Rep. John Larson, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut's 1st district, has taken to social media to address significant issues related to gun violence and Social Security. Larson, who has been a member of Congress since 1999 after replacing Barbara Kennelly, continues to advocate for his constituents on critical matters.
On December 12, 2024, Larson highlighted his participation with members of the Connecticut delegation as they prepared for the anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting. He tweeted: "LIVE: I’m with Members of the Connecticut delegation ahead of the 12th anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting to call attention to the need to end the gun violence epidemic."
Later that day, Larson expressed solidarity with victims' families and emphasized a collective call for action against gun violence. His tweet read: "This morning, I joined Members of the CT delegation and gun safety advocates to remember the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting and call for action to end the gun violence epidemic. To the families impacted, we carry you in our hearts, and we stand with you in this fight."
On December 13, 2024, Larson addressed concerns over Republican plans affecting Social Security benefits. He tweeted: "Republicans continue to push plans to raise the retirement age, which is a 7% cut to your benefits for each year it’s raised. Just because Americans are living longer doesn’t mean they should live on less! Democrats have a plan to enhance Social Security, not cut it!"
