Rep. John Larson, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 1st district since 1999, recently expressed his concerns over policy decisions impacting food assistance and Social Security. His comments reflect his stance on critical social issues and his commitment to protecting public welfare programs.

On March 12, 2025, Rep. Larson highlighted the impact of the Trump Administration's decision to cancel funds for the Local Food Purchase Assistance program. He noted that "Last year, @CTFoodshare delivered one million meals to residents through the Local Food Purchase Assistance program. The Trump Administration's decision to cancel these funds will do nothing to lower costs but will let more kids & families go hungry."

The following day, March 13, 2025, he criticized Elon Musk's characterization of Social Security as a Ponzi scheme and warned against efforts by Musk and Donald Trump to alter Social Security benefits. He stated, "Elon Musk called Social Security a Ponzi scheme, and now he and Donald Trump are out to slash & privatize your hard-earned benefits... Hands off Social Security, Trump and Musk!"

Later on March 13, Rep. Larson addressed what he perceives as long-standing Republican efforts against Social Security. He remarked that "Republicans have been gunning for Social Security for decades. Trump and Musk are spreading blatant lies as their 'DOGE' takes a wrecking ball to the Social Security Administration... The American people are watching."
