Rep. John Larson, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut's 1st district since 1999, expressed his concerns through a series of tweets regarding proposed budget cuts and election policies. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1948, Larson has been an active political figure, previously serving in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995.

On April 10, 2025, Larson stated "42 million Americans rely on SNAP nutrition benefits to put food on the table, including 41,000 CT-01 households. The Trump-House Republican budget could cut SNAP by $230 billion, taking away food from Americans in need. Democrats are united against these devastating cuts!" (April 10, 2025). He emphasized the potential impacts of the proposed budget from House Republicans on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Later that day, he addressed the overall budget proposal in another tweet "The Republican budget guts Medicaid & SNAP to pay for tax cuts for billionaires. Democrats stood united against these devastating cuts, and we aren't giving up. Will any Republicans join us, or will they keep voting for their constituents to foot the bill for these tax breaks?" (April 10, 2025). Larson questioned the allocation of resources toward tax cuts for affluent individuals at the expense of essential services.

Further, Larson expressed his opposition to new voting legislation through another post. He shared "The SAVE Act makes it harder for married women, Americans without passports, and service members to register to vote. While Republicans push the Big Lie about our elections, Democrats are fighting to protect access to the ballot box. I voted NO on this voter suppression bill!" (April 10, 2025), making clear his disapproval of the proposed SAVE Act, emphasizing its potential to restrict voting access.

John B. Larson has been a representative for Connecticut's 1st District since 1999 after replacing Barbara Kennelly. He was born in 1948, lives in East Hartford, graduated from Central Connecticut State University in 1971 with a BA, and began his political career in the Connecticut Senate from 1987 to 1995.
