Washington, D.C. - On July 14, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the below statement on the FY2024 National Defense Authorization Act.

“The Republicans have taken a bipartisan bill and turned it into a political document in their continued assault on women’s and the LGBTQ community’s rights,” said Larson. “Despite the military’s support for these groups, Republicans have made the military budget about their own cultural and ideological wars. We are proud House Democrats are standing together, not only in defense of the nation, but in defense of the women and the LGBTQ members of our armed services.

“It is my honor to represent the best machinists and engineers in the world in Connecticut’s First District, and I will continue to advocate for their work and the F135 engine in Congress. The Biden Administration has made it clear that modernizing the F135 is the best option to power the F-35, and I will continue to lead the fight to secure those 27,000 manufacturing jobs in Connecticut and save American taxpayers nearly $7 billion,” Larson concluded.

Rep. Larson has long been a champion for the F135 engine program and is co-chair of the bipartisan Joint Strike Fighter Caucus. Last year, Rep. Larson helped lead letters in support of the F135, including an F-35 Caucus letter to appropriators with strong support for the F135 and a letter to the Administration strongly advocating for F135 modernization. He wrote an op-ed for Aviation Week in strong support of the F135 and helped ensure workers’ voices were heard by the Administration.
