Rep. John Larson, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut's 1st district, recently shared several tweets on social media addressing a range of topics from local sports achievements to national legislative matters.
On January 22, 2025, Rep. Larson congratulated Patrick Agyemang from East Hartford for making his debut with the United States Men's National Soccer Team (USMNT). In his tweet, he expressed support by saying "Congratulations to Patrick Agyemang from East Hartford who recently made his debut with the @USMNT. Good luck this season. We’re cheering for you!"
The following day, January 23, 2025, Rep. Larson addressed a proposal by House Republicans concerning changes to Social Security benefits. He stated that their plan would result in a significant reduction in benefits due to an increase in the retirement age. Larson emphasized Democratic efforts to protect these benefits: "House Republicans have a plan to raise the retirement age – that's a 21% across-the-board benefit cut." He added that Democrats are committed to enhancing Social Security rather than cutting it.
Later on January 23, Rep. Larson commented on a bill passed by Republicans that he believes could impact medical decisions and potentially criminalize doctors providing reproductive care. Expressing his opposition to the bill, he tweeted: "Today, Republicans passed a bill that would interfere with medical decisions & even jail doctors who provide reproductive care." He further stated his trust in women making their own healthcare decisions and highlighted Democratic efforts to restore abortion access nationwide.
