Rep. John Larson, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 1st district, recently shared updates on his legislative activities and community engagements through a series of tweets. His focus includes discussions on Social Security reforms and honoring veterans.
On October 28, 2024, Rep. Larson tweeted about his meeting with seniors in East Windsor and Granby to discuss Social Security issues. He emphasized the importance of passing his proposed legislation, stating: "Today, I met with seniors in East Windsor and Granby to discuss the need to act on Social Security. My bill, Social Security 2100, will enhance benefits, extend the program’s solvency, and cut taxes for 23 million Americans. Let’s have a vote!"
The following day on October 29, Rep. Larson expressed his honor in presenting medals posthumously to World War II veteran Thomas Caves in Bristol. In his tweet he wrote: "It was a true privilege to present medals to the family of the late World War II veteran Thomas Caves in Bristol last week. Thomas Caves served our country in the U.S. Navy with honor, including saving his fellow sailors after an air attack badly damaged a ship in December 1944."
Later that same day, Rep. Larson reiterated his commitment to improving Social Security benefits for seniors by referencing an opinion from @SingletaryM regarding cost-of-living adjustments (COLA). He stated: "Seniors rely on Social Security benefits to make ends meet, but the annual COLA is not enough. @SingletaryM is right: we need to improve the formula to accurately reflect seniors' expenses. It's time to pass Social Security 2100!"
