Rep. John Larson, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 1st district, took to social media on February 14, 2025, to express his views on several pressing issues. Known for his active engagement in legislative matters and public discourse, Larson addressed topics ranging from corporate accountability to veterans' affairs and gun violence prevention.
On February 14, Rep. Larson announced the introduction of the Ending DOGE Conflicts Act aimed at holding Elon Musk accountable for disclosure practices. In his tweet, Larson emphasized the importance of transparency when companies receive substantial federal contracts. He stated: "I introduced the Ending DOGE Conflicts Act to hold Elon Musk accountable. He must be held to the same disclosure rules as everyone else, especially when his companies receive billions in federal contracts."
Later that day, Rep. Larson commented on changes affecting veterans' access to healthcare under what he referred to as "Musk-Trump's VA purge." He expressed concern about potential increased wait times and barriers for veterans seeking care while criticizing tax breaks for affluent individuals. He wrote: "Musk-Trump's VA purge will mean longer wait times & more barriers for veterans to access care... Let's be clear: they're telling veterans who put their lives on the line they will have to do with less so Musk-Trump can afford more tax breaks for the wealthiest one percent."
In another post that evening, Rep. Larson reflected on the tragic shooting in Parkland, Florida, which occurred seven years prior. He advocated for an assault weapons ban and universal background checks as measures to enhance community safety against gun violence. His statement read: "Seven years ago, 17 students & staff were killed during the tragic shooting in Parkland, Florida... We stand with the families and survivors who are fighting for change. It's time for an assault weapons ban & universal background checks to keep communities safe from gun violence."
